Teaching Excellence Framework

Universities and colleges that take part in the TEF are assessed and rated for excellence above a set of minimum requirements for quality and standards. They receive an overall rating as well as two underpinning ratings – one for the student experience and one for student outcomes.

The TEF is a desk-based, expert review exercise. The TEF panel is made up of academics and students who are experts in learning and teaching.

By measuring these important criteria, the TEF:

• Encourages higher education providers to deliver excellent teaching and learning experiences
• Shines a spotlight on high-quality teaching and courses, helping institutions to enhance their academic reputation
• Supports students to identify which higher education provider is most suitable for them
