As Head of Student Learning Development at RCL, Vanessa Lima enjoys helping students develop the confidence, skills and sense of belonging they need to succeed in higher education. Her work focuses on student success, academic literacies, transition to university, curriculum enhancement, staff development and quality assurance.
Vanessa has over 25 years of experience in education, including teaching and student support in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and learning development, curriculum design and academic leadership.
Vanessa is inspired by seeing students grow academically and personally, and by working collaboratively with colleagues to create inclusive learning environments that enable all students to reach their potential. She also enjoys leading and developing teams, mentoring colleagues and designing initiatives that have a positive impact on student outcomes across the institution.
Before joining RCL in 2021, Vanessa taught academic skills and English language at several higher education institutions. Earlier in her career, she worked as an English language teacher and examiner.
Career highlights
- Progressing from Academic Skills Advisor to Head of Student Learning Development at RCL within five years.
- Establishing and leading the College’s ASK@Regent team, which has grown from a single-person service into a multidisciplinary team supporting more than 10,000 students across Levels 3–7 through a three-strand model that combines one-to-one support, extra-curricular and embedded curriculum provision to enhance student success and progression.
- Achieving Senior Fellowship of Advance HE in recognition of her leadership and influence on learning and teaching practice
