Dr Juliette Smeed

Juliette has worked as a lecturer and learning developer in Higher Education in both the UK and New Zealand. Her experience embedded within a range of academic departments – from humanities to business and education – has given her in-depth understanding of how educators help students to become successful thinkers and researchers within their discipline. CELTA trained, she has supported international and EAL students as they develop the language and study skills needed for university. In addition, during her six years embedded in Business Schools, she has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students a range of business soft skills, including reflective practice and multi-media presentation skills.
Juliette has a particular interest in pedagogies that foster critical thinking skills and aptitudes. She has recently completed a postgraduate qualification in online learning, which has enabled her to focus on how students’ critical thinking capacities can be expanded by the opportunities available in open and online learning environments. Her other research interest is learning through storytelling and play.
