Overview

Regent College London (RCL) offers a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering that blends study with practical learning. It is ideal for anyone looking to take their first steps into higher education, with a hands-on approach, before either going on to employment or a degree.

Earn a recognised Engineering qualification at RCL
Our HND in Engineering is a recognised and respected qualification within the engineering sector. The course provides all the essential skills, knowledge and techniques required to begin your career with a solid grounding. By the end of the course, you will have gained a balanced overview of the sector, a strong level of understanding of the essentials, as well as the core skillset to continue to learn and develop as a professional.

Who is a HND in Engineering right for?

The HND in Engineering option is designed to help set you apart from the crowd. Validated by Pearson, the diploma is a two-year, full-time course that has been developed to suit both aspiring engineers and those currently working in the sector. Irrespective of what sort of engineering interests you, this course will help you to achieve your goals. It offers a strong sector-related emphasis on practical, academic and management skills development and is right for anyone wanting a start in the sector.

The course is ideal for those who would like to gain the first two years of an Engineering Degree, and then move onto a one-year, top-up at university to gain a full undergraduate degree.

Modules

A comprehensive course of engineering modules

As an engineering student at RCL, you will work though a number of course units that provide an all-round understanding of engineering concepts and skills. The course covers the collection and analysis of a range of modules that include Engineering Science, Mechanical Properties and Fluid Mechanics. The qualification provides you with the core knowledge, skills, and techniques that all engineers require, in addition to building a body of specialist knowledge and skills at the Technician or Engineer level. Students can then progress towards achieving internationally recognised registration with a professional body regulated by the Engineering Council. Upon gaining this Level 4 and 5 Vocation, you will also be able to work toward a full bachelor’s degree by completing a top-up degree if you wish to do so.

Entry Requirements

  • GCSE passes at grades ‘A to C’ including English Language, and either a minimum of one A- Level at grades ‘A’ to ‘E,’ or a BTEC Level 3 Certificate or Diploma, or an Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution; or
  • College-recognised certificated learning equivalent to the above. Where possible Regent College London uses the NARIC database to determine equivalents to GCSE and A-Level qualifications; or
  • Normally, two or more years of work experience at a managerial/supervisory/admin level relevant to the programme applied for. This must be evidenced via a personal statement, work experience form and successful interview, and supported by employment reference(s) indicating the duration of employment and the role.

Alternative Entry Requirements

You may also be eligible to join a HND programme if you have previous learning that satisfies the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the course you are interested in, normally with 90 credits (subject to syllabus studied previously). It is your responsibility to demonstrate this with objective evidence.

Prospective students who are not UK nationals, or who are UK nationals but do not have GCSE English Language at grades A to C, are required to take our English language assessment. If you hold an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) grade 5.5, with both reading and writing at grade 5.5, you do not need to sit this assessment.

If you do not meet the required standard of English in the assessment, you will be offered an English language course to help you improve your English to the necessary level to gain admission to the Pearson HND in Business programme.

What our students say

Faizul Kabir

BSc (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year

I enjoy every bit. Great atmosphere, latest technologies, dedicated SSO/ASO assigned in our learning journey at Regent College. They treat us as a family. Believe in “by the student and for the student”. Student of the month program. Students are involved with senior management, academic team, and student support team.

Regent College helps me in every step of my learning journey. Every day I feel closer to my educational and career dreams. Regent Digital helps me connect to the career world and Scope sessions / Learning Zone to improve my academic learning.

I enjoy the assignment tutorial, support from SSO/ASO and the academic team the most. We are involved in a conversation with the Principal every Tuesday, the best thing I have come across. Our lectures notes and slides are easy to understand. In-class hands-on training and additional reference links make our lecturers top notch. They offer unconditional support and go the extra mile to motivate me.

I recommend Regent College. Regent is helping me to develop and taking me towards my education and career dreams. If I can do it, why not my friends and family. I am optimistic Regent college will help them the way they helped me and continue to help me.

Shirley Edokpolor

A very friendly and helpful college. Been an extremely pleasable experience with welcoming and friendly staff and qualified patient and very supportive tutors. In fact the whole experience is being one of feeling of belonging to a family. Being an old person with disability, the encouragement and support I received leaves me overwhelmed with gratitude. I have no qualms to sincerely recommend students to choose Regents College as their first choice of their educational endeavours.

The great thing about Regent College London is its campus location in central London. The newly refurbished campus is well equipped with state of the art technology. Our teachers did an awesome job during the COVID-19 pandemic by keeping the class running flawlessly through digital lessons.

Abdirahman Farah

BA (Hons) Business Management Degree with Foundation Year

I joined Regent college in 2018 to do a 4 year business management degree that included a foundation year. It is one of the best decisions that I have ever made. The staff are very kind and helpful, the teachers are professional and the facilities are excellent. I could not ask for more.

HND

I think the course so far has exceeded my expectations, the teachers really do explain things well. If I don’t understand something, I know that I can go to any of my teachers and they will be able to break it down to me and offer me the additional support that I need. The best part of the course so far has been meeting like minded people, the teaching and, of course, the content of the course. I really enjoy learning about the different components of business and how businesses function optimally to generate revenue. I would definitely recommend the course and encourage anyone interested in business to go forward and study a HND with Regent College London.

I choose Regent College to study because it was recommended to me by a friend, who attends here. Enrolling and starting studying went very smoothly. I am very happy I got the chance to take the HND Business class, as my plan for the future is to run my own business. I am looking forward to making the best of this class and continue my studies to get my Bachelors Degree. Regent College offers great teachers, kind and polite.
