Foundation Degrees at Regent

Foundation degrees at Regent offer students a practical introduction to business before committing to a full bachelor’s degree or entering direct employment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A Foundation degree is typically a 2-year vocational-based programme suited to individuals looking to gain a practical introduction to a subject area. The flexible nature of the course allows you to study while working, making it ideal for mature students or those already in employment. Upon successful completion, you can top-up the Foundation degree and gain a Ba or BSc degree.

A Foundation degree covers work-based experience relevant to a specific job or career. There are many reasons to study a Foundation degree:

  • You do not have the minimum qualifications to enter a bachelor’s degree.
  • You would like an introduction to a specific subject area before committing to a full bachelor’s degree
  • You are a mature student returning to education and want to experience a higher education learning environment

A FY and a Foundation degree are not the same. After successful completion, a FY gives you direct access to a 3-year bachelor’s degree, whereas a Foundation degree is a 2-year stand-alone course.

A foundation year is ideal for those ready to commit to a full-time BA or BSc degree. In contrast, a Foundation degree offers students the flexibility to gain a vocational-based qualification in as little as two years.

You will be assessed through written work, exams, projects, assignments, group work, and presentations. Practical elements are also possible depending on the subject itself.

Foundation degree students will qualify for government funding. Tuition fee loans from Student Finance are available if this is your first undergraduate qualification. You may be entitled to additional funding if you’re a parent, carer or have a disability.

Visit our grants and scholarships page for more information about additional funding.
